General Responsibilities:
The Cashier Team Leader will report to the Payment Center Superintendent. The Team Leader will perform duties related to the cash function – accepting, controlling, and balancing the work from each cashier. The team leader will research and resolve issues related to customer questions and payments and assist cashiers with complex customer account issues. The Team Leader will assist the Superintendent with training, coaching, and counseling cashiers in the payment center.
Essential Job Functions:
- Disarm the alarm and open the vault door to begin the day and secure all negotiables; close the vault at the end of the day
- Responsible for vault cash supply and ordering change as needed
- Facilitate the payment function in the drive-through and the lobby by overseeing cashiers' breaks and lunches, balancing times, and making necessary scheduling adjustments
- Perform daily random audits of cashiers
- Upon cashiers' balancing, receive locked bags, complete Deposit Log, and place bags in the vault
- Prepare daily deposits, working with a Cashier III/Superintendent for dual control Log deposits and transfer to armored car personnel each afternoon
- Assist cashiers and other BWWB employees with complicated customer issues as needed
- Work with Payment Center Superintendent to onboard and train new cashiers
- Process returned payments
- Perform the duties of cashiers as needed
- Help establish and facilitate service goals
- Assist with scheduling to ensure proper coverage for the payment center
- Work with the Superintendent to ensure that we remain in compliance with all operational guidelines
- Ability to work flex shifts of :-:/:-:
- Understand customer service operations, correctly advise customers, and deliver excellent customer service
- Responsible for daily/weekly/monthly reconcilement of incoming payments within division and cashier activity
- Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management

Education:
Associate degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience required.
Certifications
Experience:
Five (5) years of cash handling and customer service experience required. A thorough knowledge of all cashier duties and responsibilities. Three (3) years experience as a senior/lead teller or cashier preferred.
Possess above average written and verbal communication skills, Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and 10-key and cash handling skills and techniques. Possess above average computer skills with the ability to troubleshoot and perform training of new software when installed. Have a thorough knowledge of, and ability to interpret and apply, Birmingham Water Works Board’s rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Must have the ability to multi-task and work effectively under pressure.
Must have strong interpersonal skills, demonstrate leadership skills, and strong oral and written communication skills. Must have knowledge of Call Center/Customer Service Department policies and procedures and experience handling complex, difficult or irate customers.
