 Shift: Fri-Wed 7am-7pm; Thurs -3pm-11pm

General Responsibilities:

To be responsible for the safe operation of state-approved water purification plant under ADEM Administrative Code Division 7 Rules and Regulations governing public water supplies.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Produce water that meets BWWB, ADEM AND EPA regulatory standardsDetermine latest changes in the operations when coming on shift to ensure continuity to plant processKeep visual check on all instrumentation concerning distribution and plant status, responding to operational changes as requiredMaintain contact and coordinate with maintenance and repair crews taking equipment or distribution facilities out of service for preventative maintenance and/or repairsBackwash and maintain proper operation of filtersObserve and practice safety and housekeeping throughout the plant
  • Perform routine chemical, bacteriological and physical tests onwater per recognized and approvedtest proceduresResponsible for all correct data entry for SCADA, ADEM and EPA reportsTrain all staff to advance in operationsContinuing educations and training for career enhancement as well as ensure compliance with ADEM requirementsResponsible for plant in absence of Senior/Chief Operator
  • Must be able to successfully pass a respiratory facial protective fit test for the handling of chemicals this may include no facial hair for the protective fit test to be effectivePerform other duties as assigned

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent required.  Two years of college preferred.

Certifications

Grade IV Certification Required
Chlorine Certification Required

Experience:

Six years water treatment systems equipment used in the operation of filter plants preferred. Strong communication skills required to communicate technical or operational information and to prepare written reports. Work autonomously without a shift supervisor.  Knowledge of total distribution system as it relates to specific areas of plant operations.  Good verbal and written communication skills are required.  Basic computer skills, such as Microsoft Word and Excel are required
