General Responsibilities:

To be responsible for the safe operation of state-approved water purification plant under ADEM Administrative Code 7 Rules and Regulations governing public water supplies. Communicate and coordinate with Senior Operators to optimize system operations.

Essential Job Functions:

• Produce water that meets BWWB, ADEM AND EPA regulatory standards
• Communicate and coordinate with the Senior Operators to optimize system
• Determine latest changes in operations when coming to shift to ensure continuity of plant process
• Keep visual check on all instrumentation concerning distribution and plant status, responding to operational changes as required
• Maintain contact and coordinate with maintenance and repair crew taking equipment or distribution facilities out of service for preventive maintenance and/or repairs
• Bring plant and system back to normal operations after disruptions and/or outages
• Backwash and maintain proper operations of filters
• Observe and practice safety and housekeeping throughout the plant
• Perform routine chemical, bacteriological and physical tests on water as recognized and approved test procedures
• Responsible for accurate data entry for SCADA, ADEM and EPA reports
• Training of staff to advance in operations
• Keep chemical inventory and order chemicals for the Filter Plant through the use of SAP Responsible to setup Purchase Order for proper invoicing of $MM annually in chemicals
• Continuing education and training for career enhancement as well as to ensure compliance with ADEM requirements
• Performs SAP ordering and receiving lab supplies and bulk chemicals
• Must be able to successfully pass a respiratory facial protective fit test for the handling of chemicals this may include no facial hair for the protective fit test to be effective
• Coordinate with Engineering and Distribution departments to manage the distribution system
• Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required; two years of college or technical school preferred.

Certifications

Experience:

Eight (8) years water treatment systems equipment used in the operation of filter plants preferred; minimum of four (4) years. Strong mathematical skills to handle calculations of measurements for chemical distribution. Strong communication skills required to communicate technical or operational information and to prepare written reports. Work autonomously without a shift supervisor. Knowledge of total distribution system as it relates to specific areas of plant operations. Good verbal and written communication skills are required. Basic computer skills, such as Microsoft Word and Excel are required.
