General Responsibilities:
Assist Meter Setter II in digging and backfilling holes, installing water meters, meter boxes, meter vaults, stopcocks and various meter fittings and supplies.
Essential Job Functions:
- Perform various tasks utilizing tools such as pipe wrenches, crescent wrenches, shovels, hammers, sledgehammers, stopcock keys, and valve keys
- Assist in operating drilling and tapping machines and make taps on pressurized mains Tap sizes range from ¾” to ” Tie in corporation cock and copper and connect to meter yoke or copper setter
- Assist in repairing leaks inside the meter box
- Assist in operating main valves, tapping valves, and stopcocks
- Assist with fire services and domestic services vault
- Load and unload meters on trucks
- Locate, uncover and clean around meter boxes and vaults
- Assist in setting, raising, lowering, and replacing meter boxes
- Assist in changing, setting, and removing water meters
- Excavate and remove abandoned meter boxes using a sledgehammer, clay spade or compressed air-powered jackhammer and fill the resulting hole with proper backfill
- Keep assigned vehicle clean and report all mechanical problems Maintain a valid driver's license
- Adhere to all traffic laws and safety policies and procedures when driving company vehicles
- Work an on-call rotating schedule outside the regular schedule on a rotating basis to support business continuity when responding to emergencies
- Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required
Certifications
Experience:
Six (6) months of related work experience, including machines and field equipment, construction, pipefitting, map reading, and basic math.

- Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Ability to climb or balance
- Reaching by excreting hand(s) or arms(s) in any direction
- Finger dexterity is required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard

Working Environment:
- Loud noise; work indoors and outdoors, exposed to extreme hot/cold/wet weather conditions
- Work in a field setting in pits up to 10 feet deep. Confined spaces, including vaults up to 11 feet by 13 feet by 9 feet
