General Responsibilities:
Read residential, commercial, and industrial meters to ensure accurate reading on the first visit. Work reread orders to verify consumption and get meter readings that needed to be included or completed. Report unassigned meters. Report all usage on inactive accounts, stolen meters and straights found in the field.
Essential Job Functions:
- Read residential, commercial, and industrial water meters on a handheld computer
- Check meters and settings for unauthorized usage or damages and report irregularities, including new and changing meters
- Work re-read service orders when assigned
- Respond to and complete high-bill inquiries along with assigned routes
- Make sure meters and work areas are safe, including holes around meter boxes and defective meter lids Replace missing lids
- Report all water leaks at meters, main or fire hydrants
- Keep assigned vehicle clean and report all mechanical problems Maintain a valid driver's license
- Adhere to all traffic laws and safety policies and procedures when driving company vehicles
- Coordinate, correct, and maintain reported corrections for routing irregularities and meter locations to ensure accuracy for the next billing cycle
- Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Certifications
Experience:
Six (6) months of general work experience. Prior meter reading experience, knowledge of customer billing and minor leak repairs preferred.

- Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods
- Reaching by excreting hand(s) or arms(s) in any direction
- Finger dexterity is required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard
- Communication skills using the spoken word
- Ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less
- Ability to hear within normal parameters
- Ability to move about
- Ability to lift 100 pounds
Working Environment:
- Work outside most of the time, subject to extreme hot/cold/wet weather conditions. Walking most of the time except on car routes.
- Subject to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, bad dogs, insects, falls, driving in traffic (bad roads, ice, snow, inclement weather) and occasional heavy lifting.
