General Responsibilities

Provide quality field service to customers professionally and efficiently. Contribute to meeting the organizational goals of producing revenue through customer service needs for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform daily scheduled routes and additional assignments by operating computers and electronic devices throughout the system
  • Disconnect customers' water service on delinquent accounts, reconnect when customers bring the bill to current status and install new meters
  • Inspect the customer's plumbing system for leaks or malfunction of equipment and notify the customer of any problems
  • Check, install and replace /”, /" and ” meters in meter setting area
  • Report unsafe conditions, including street leaks, service leaks, broken meter boxes, meter lids, and other field-related irregularities
  • Use maps, GPS, and meter reading tools to locate and perform assigned readings
  • Provide revenue protection services at the point of discovery and report customers illegally using water service Disconnect service s when necessary
  • Update customer address corrections as needed using the SAP system
  • Perform and ensure daily route closeouts by completing all paperwork in the system
  • Inspect water services for correct installation or any other irregularities; make repairs and adjustments and shut the water off for plumbing defects; advise customers if repairs are required or discontinue service if the unauthorized connection is connected in the meter setting
  • Maintain proper supplies always to perform required work
  • Communicate with customers by providing excellent customer service while performing duties with the public; answer customers' concerns or complaints professionally regarding billing reading errors
  • Enter and work inside underground vaults with the required personal protective equipment to perform duties
  • Validate readings s from the high bill list
  • Assist with training new technicians as needed
  • Keep assigned vehicle clean, report all mechanical problems and track service records Maintain a valid driver's license
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, safety policies and procedures when driving company vehicles
  • Work an on-call rotating schedule outside the regular schedule on a rotating basis
  • Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required 

Experience

Three (3) years of meter reading, meter repair or field distribution system experience required.   Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid driver’s license required
  • QCI Certification preferred
  • ADEM Grade I Certification preferred
