General Responsibilities:

Responsible for the preventative maintenance of plants and each plant’s residual handling facility. Work with Maintenance and Crew Leader to ensure plant reliability.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for preventative maintenance and minor repairs of high service pumps, chemical feed systems, and general plant maintenance and repair
  • Train employees in the proper chlorine handling and using self-contained breathing apparatus SCBA
  • Order maintenance and repair kits and parts for all aspects of the plant
  • Schedule calibration of all turbidity units from different manufacturers and modelsResponsible for scheduling maintenance of chemical feed systems Schedule preventative maintenance and lubrication of treatment equipment mixers, pumps, clarifiers, alum feeders, and flocculation; schedule clarifier basin maintenance and tube settler module cleaningResponsible for all level indicators alum tanks, clear wells, recycle backwash station, clarifier overflow station, and the flume
  • Coordinate equipment repair or shutdowns for construction to not interfere with plant operations
  • Responsible for properly operating the filter backwashing system, including all valves and actuators
  • Organize and schedule all necessary plant painting operations
  • Work closely with SCADA, E&M Shop, and vendors to troubleshoot problems and add new equipment
  • Must successfully pass a respiratory, facial protective fit test for handling chemicals this may include no facial hair for the protective fit test to be effective Responsible for coordination of all pumping and treatment operations and sludge dewatering facilities
  • Must be able to respond to crises and emergencies as needs arise
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable lawsEnsure all organizational policies and guidelines are adhered to and administered correctly, including the HR Management Guide, Employee Handbook, reviewing and approving timesheets, and expense reports, complying with applicable employment laws, purchasing guidelines, bid law, etc
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Education:

Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school required; or combination of education and experience.

 

Certifications

Valid Driver’s License required
Fit Test for Respirator purposes required
Grade IV Water Treatment Plant Certification required
Maintain 24 CEHs every 3 years required
Backflow Certification required (must have within 3 months of being hired)
Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT) in 24 months
FEMA ICS: 100, 200, 700, 800, and 300 required; or obtained within 18 months of the hire date

Experience:

Five (5) years minimum experience in Water Purification Plant operations required. Maintenance experience required.  Team lead experience or other demonstrated leadership skills are required. Basic knowledge of electricity, computer, and instrument functions needed.  Strong interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills.Three (3) years of supervisory-related experience required.

 

For internal candidates, the successful completion of the following BWW leadership development programs may be counted towards the required supervisory experience:

  • Pre-Supervisory Program (STAR) = one year of supervisory experience
  • Succession Planning Program = one year of supervisory

Working Environment:

Loud noise; indoors and outdoors, subject to the risks associated with hazardous-material response, emergency response, chemical spills, main breaks, and inclement weather, including ice, snow, tornados, and hurricanes. Must be able to deal with the stress associated with the position.
