General Responsibilities:
Perform technical functions associated with collecting, testing and analyzing samples throughout the water treatment process (Filter Plants and Distribution System) to include performing chemical, physical, and bacteriological tests according to EPA/ADEM procedures. Schedule all lab projects as setup by management and regulatory agencies. Instruct samplers of any changes in the system for the collection of samples.
Essential Job Functions:
- Follow all QA/QC protocols, maintain files and logbooks and adhere to all safety protocols googles, gloves, lab coats, fume hoods, face shields, etc Maintain clean, organized and well-kept lab and perform other related duties as required or assigned
- Flush hydrants, meters and blow-offs, operate, maintain and supervise installation of automatic flushing units and sampling stations
- Collect samples in the field and perform field-testing at locations throughout the distribution system and respond to general customer inquiries, notifying supervisor of any problems or irregularities detected
- Prepare reagents and solutions, utilize and calibrate equipment used for field sampling and testing, ensuring proper operation
- Analyze water samples by performing organic, inorganic, and bacteriological analysis as required Participate/pass required performance evaluation studies from ADEM Including Microbiological annual proficiency requirements
- Input system monitoring information into LIMS and utilize other standard office equipment
- Maintain a working knowledge of the BWWB service and use line maps and detail pages to locate hydrants, valves and water mains for accurate flushing
- Required to maintain automatic flushing units, sampling stations, repair or submit work orders to repair meters, and hydrants reporting water main problems and notifying superiors of any irregularities detected
- Maintain inventory supplies including ordering of chemicals, reagents, bottles, and any other supplies needed Making sure chemicals and reagents are correctly labeled and dated upon arrival Making sure chemicals are stored in the correct location Properly disposing of expired or no longer needed chemicals Properly cleaning glassware and proper disposal of glassware as needed
- Responsible to clean, maintain and keep records on company vehicle
- Maintains adequate office and breakroom supplies, orders and prepares requisitions for needed supplies; arranges equipment for repairs and maintenance
- Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures
- Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate Degree in Chemistry or related science field preferred.
Certifications
Experience:
Two (2) years of customer service-related experience required.

Physical Demands:
Position requires driving, sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, kneeling, bending, lifting and carrying supplies weighing 25 pounds or more in the performance of job duties. May be required to use chemicals, enter confined spaces, drive motorized vehicles and use heavy equipment and respond to after-hours emergency calls.
