General Responsibilities
Under general supervision, service, repair and maintain a wide variety of Board vehicles, mechanical equipment and power tools.
Essential Job Functions
- Inspect and evaluate vehicles and equipment in need of repairs. Perform necessary repairs and recommend additional repairs following vehicle assessment.
- Perform routine and/or preventative maintenance and repairs on gasoline /diesel vehicles ranging from cars to dump trucks and equipment such as air compressors, backhoes, etc.
- Make repairs to electrical system and A/C equipment.
- Repair brakes, repair fuel injector systems, change plugs, perform tune-ups, change tires, fix flats and lights, transmission and radiators, water pumps.
- Replace floats in the tanks
- Responsible for service on all Board vehicles daily, changes oil and filters on a mileage/monthly or when needed; schedule-fueling etc. Keep daily log on fuel and oil for each vehicle and equipment.
- Repair electrical systems, A/C systems, fuel injection systems, carburetors, air-brake systems and perform major tune-ups.
- Test-drives vehicles prior to and after repairs.
- Participates in the diagnostic and mechanical work activities of the department.
- Install GPS and fuel systems.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for supervisor.
- Make service calls and road test vehicles and equipment.
- Participates in the on-call rotation to support vehicles in service in the field.
- Work with various vendors to stay current on knowledge of equipment for vehicle repairs.
- Clean up assigned areas.
- Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures. Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
Two (2) years of automotive repair experience required. Able to use diagnostic equipment for repair of various types of vehicles. Able to repair diesel vehicles. Able to read automotive codes in order to repair various types of fleet vehicles. Basic Computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel required.

Physical Demands
Work requires the occasional performance of heavier physical tasks such as bending, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, working in restricted spaces, climbing, balancing on equipment, and occasional lifting or carrying of heavy objects 50 pounds or over. Work also requires physical dexterity in the frequent of hand-eye coordination and manipulative skills, using fingers, limbs or body in the use of tools when training or helping subordinates repair vehicles.
Work Enviroment
- Loud noise; ability to work near moving mechanical parts;
- Outdoors in extreme hot/cold and or wet weather conditions.
