Hours: Monday - Friday; 7:30 am until 4:00 pm

Salary: $29.69 ($61,762.45 - $87,964.71) - $42.29

General Responsibilities

 Under the direction of the Principal Engineer and/or Senior Engineer, the Senior Project Coordinator will serve as a lead and/or provide support services on various projects related to civil and infrastructure systems on water works facilities and equipment, T&D (Transmission and Distribution), filter plants, pumping stations, storage facilities, wells and reservoirs. Responsibilities will include planning, scheduling, constructability review, procurement, construction administration, inspection, and project close-out. Strong experience and expertise in project and construction management is required for this role. 

Essential Job Functions

  1. Plan and manage several capital projects simultaneously ranging in scope
  1. Prepare bid documents and coordinate procurement with Purchasing Department.
  1. Conduct QA/QC of project documents and reports, verifying accuracy of data, information and calculations.
  1. Perform contract administration and inspection services for construction and rehabilitation of raw and potable water tanks. Work to include water tank painting, code upgrades, and proper disposal of hazardous waste disposal.
  1. Procurement and managing material inventory on various project jobsites, including maintaining job site safety standards to eliminate safely hazards to employees, customers and the public in general, and to comply with regulatory requirements. Inventory to include pipes, fittings, paving, stone backfill, and safety records, etc.       
  2. Perform field inspections of construction project work sites to determine that work is performed according.

  1. Coordinate notification of customers regarding water shut off and tie-ins.
  1. Enforcement of BWWB specifications for installation of water mains and appurtenances.
  1. Develop reports to be provided to regulators, internal or external customers as required.
  1. Apply for permits through city, county, state and regulatory agencies (i.e. ADEM); visit and inspect work sites.
  2. Perform erosion control inspections on project sites and ensure compliance with guidelines and permitting agencies
  3. Abilty to read and decipher regulations and industry codes, e.g. AWWA, OSHA, ASTM and ANSI, and explain requirement of same to others.
  4. Coordinates activities with local jurisdictions, state and federal agencies, private businesses, contractors, consultants and others involved with the Board's projects.


Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related fields; or equivalent combination of education and experience in the water distribution industry.


Six (6) years of experience in project and construction management, constructability review, coordinating, planning, scheduling phases of major projects required. Extensive knowledge in understanding specifications and drawings and ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment. Business Software knowledge preferred. Broad Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is a plus.

Surveying experience is preferred.

Experience in planning and coordinating the installation and maintenance of cathodic protection systems preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

ADEM Water Operator Grade Certification or the ability to obtain in 6 months.

Trench, Safety, Shoring and Trench Box Certification or the ability to obtain in 6 months

NACE preferred

Valid Alabama Driver License
