General Responsibilities

Job Title: Transportation Supervisor                                          Department: Purchasing

Reporting Relationship: Purchasing Manager                           FLSA Status: Exempt

Grade: 42

Shift Pattern: M-F, TBD

Essential Job Functions

  1. Directly supervises employees in the Transportation Department.
  2. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  3. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  4. Recommend purchase of vehicles to expand and/or enhance the fleet.
  5. Schedule regular maintenance on all vehicles.
  6. Supervise the Board’s fleet, direct the operation of vehicle maintenance to ensure all materials and supplies are stocked and vehicle/equipment is maintained.
  7. Coordinate with all departments the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment, includes evaluating the problem, determining if repair should be made in-house or sent out, and where to send.

8.Interview sales representatives soliciting business and evaluate their products by selecting the best product and the best price for the company.

9.Enter and receive information on automotive supplies, equipment and materials being stored or ordered.  Enter information on computer and make cards for fuel systems. 

10.Uses SAP to process requisitions for the replenishment of depleted stock, physically receives, issues and stores automotive supplies, materials and equipment in a storeroom facility and maintains a perpetual inventory system.

11. Checks quantity and quality of goods and equipment received for conformity to purchase orders and specifications.  Make sure the building is clean inside and out, floors mopped, papers picked up and trash emptied, etc.

12. Audits the processing of items and equipment, which require security and strict accountability, such as automotive parts.

13. Participates in the design for special modifications needed for company vehicles.

14. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Ensure all Organizational polices and guidelines are adhered to and administered correctly to include the HR Management Guide, Employee Handbook, reviewing and approving timesheets, expense reports, complying with applicable employment laws, purchasing guidelines, bid law, etc.

19. Maintains and protects sensitive and private information by keeping employee records confidential in accordance with HIPAA, local, state and federal laws and regulations.

20. Perform all work safely in accordance with established safety policies and procedures. Comply with all safety and health standards and guidelines issued by management.

21. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Business or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Alabama Driver’s License required.

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) required

Experience

Eight (8) years of automotive repair experience required. Experience managing requisition and inventory software.  Three (3) years of supervisory related experience (e.g. such as in a team leader role). For internal candidates the successful completion of the following BWW leadership development programs may be counted towards the required supervisory experience:

  • Pre-Supervisory Program (STAR) = one year of supervisory experience
  • Succession Planning Program = one year of supervisory
